This Call for Papers is open to any interested author.

TVET@Asia invites researchers, scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute to a special issue focused on the theme of The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on TVET.

Scope and Objective:

Sustainable development has become a global imperative as nations respond to climate change, environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and the urgent transition toward green economies. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a pivotal role in preparing a workforce that is capable of supporting environmentally responsible industries, advancing green innovation, and promoting sustainable practices across sectors.

Greening TVET goes beyond introducing environmental topics into curricula. It involves integrating sustainability principles into institutional governance, curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, industry partnerships, and community engagement. For example, embedding green competencies in occupational standards can equip learners with the skills required for certain industrial sectors, such as renewable energy, sustainable construction, circular economy practices, and low-carbon manufacturing. At the same time, challenges such as aligning training with rapidly evolving green technologies, addressing resource constraints, and ensuring equitable access to green skills development require careful attention.

This issue aims to examine the expanding contribution of TVET in promoting sustainable development. We invite original research papers, conceptual and theoretical works, policy-focused studies, and practical case analyses that investigate how TVET systems can advance environmental sustainability, facilitate green transitions, and strengthen climate resilience. Contributions may also provide critical reflections on policies, models, innovations, and the wider impacts of greening TVET on learners, industries, and communities.

Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Integration of green skills and sustainability competencies into TVET curricula
  • Curriculum reform to cater to industry demand (e.g., renewable energy, sustainable manufacturing, and green technologies)
  • Pedagogical approaches for education for sustainable development (ESD) in TVET
  • Green campus initiatives and sustainable institutional management in TVET institutions
  • Industry-TVET collaboration for green jobs and sustainable workforce development
  • Reskilling and upskilling for emerging green occupations
  • Policy frameworks and national strategies for greening TVET systems
  • Assessment and certification of green competencies
  • Equity and inclusiveness in green skills development
  • Case studies of successful green TVET initiatives at local, national, or regional levels
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of greening initiatives in TVET

This issue is intended to serve as an important reference and knowledge platform for educators, industry stakeholders, researchers, and policymakers who are dedicated to strengthening TVET’s role in advancing sustainable development and supporting the transition toward a green economy.
