The Research Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training is established to drive further development of the work-based learning technical and vocational training system in Thailand through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) that relies on the cooperation among RMUTL university, governmental agencies, private companies, and vocational colleges or high schools.
The research center is located in Chiangmai province and consists of two main parts.
This research center intends to support the Thai TVET policy to enhance work-based learning in the context of the ASEAN economic community. Thus, to enhance the access to quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) that is responsive to changing labour market demands in the entire region (ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2021-2025). As its main concern, this research center has been working closely with private companies in planning, developing, and implementing TVET programs as well as further educating their TVET personnel through such collaboration. Technical universities in Thailand, at the moment, are playing a major role in enhancing the quality of TVET through work-based learning. Therefore, the linkage between TVET colleges and private companies is strengthened through this cooperation.

As a result, the long-term goal at the systemic level in founding this research center is to establish vocational pedagogy as a self-reliant academic discipline in Thailand through a participatory action research approach.
